Ted Williams is regarded as one of baseball's greatest all-time players. He's won 2 Triple-Crown awards, maintains the highest on-base percentage as well as the highest batting average for a player with more than 300 home runs. His league play was briefly interrupted twice by military service, and he raised millions of dollars for the Jimmy Fund for cancer research. His #9 jersey is retired by the Boston Red Sox and he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1966. He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1991.
