Dave Winfield is recognized for his accomplishments on the field, named by ESPN as the third best all-around athlete of all-time, as well as his charitable efforts off the field. Winfield was the first active athlete with a charitable organization in his name, buying out sections at his games for people who couldn't afford to attend as well as funding various health organizations. Cited as an inspiration by Derek Jeter, his #31 is retired by the San Diego Padres, and he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2001.
